Family View Report in Family Tree Maker 2012

What You Need to Know

Like the family group sheet report on which it is based, it has the option to included children from other unions[1], lines for extra children[2], individual thumbnail images, and preparer information.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the option to include other spouses. Nor does it give you the option of including an LDS section or section dividers.

How to Create a Family View Report

  1. Navigate to the family you want to be the subject of the report
  2. Switch to the publish workspace
  3. Select Relationship Reports from the list of publication types
  4. Double-click the Family View Report (or click once then click the Create Report button)
  5. Configure the settings
  6. Click the Generate Report button
  7. Click the Print or Share button

Load up your copy of Family Tree Maker 2012 and follow along with this video to create a one of these for your relatives.

[2] Extra lines for children make this a handy report to take on a visit to collect data.

Merging Duplicate Facts in Family Tree Maker 2012

Context Menu Showing Merge Duplicate Facts OptionOccasionally in Family Tree Maker 2012 you’re going to end up with duplicate facts. Actually, it will happen with any genealogy software; it’s not a situation peculiar to FTM.

What You Need to Know

Duplicate facts can appear up in your file by mistake and perhaps even from problems with TreeSync. I don’t have any hard evidence of that, I simply know from my experience with computers and programming that it’s possible. It doesn’t really matter why the duplicates are in there anyway. If you want them gone Family Tree Maker can help you merge them.[1]

Family Tree Maker 2012 Updated

Ancestry released an update to Family Tree Maker 2012 today. Here’s a rundown of what’s in it for you.

Of highest importance if you’re having problems synching your FTM file with your Ancestry member tree (AMT), is TreeSync stability improvements. Those come with performance improvements too according to the release notes.

The update include bug fixes and improvements in several areas:

  • Added support for media, notes, and sources during file merges
  • Improved handling of media during Web merges
  • Bug fixes for tasks, media items, and window resizing issues (on computers running Windows 7)

Reunion 10 for Mac Hits Amazon.com

You can order Reunion 10on Amazon.com now. Right now there are three sellers. Well, two really. The third has the ridiculous price of $184.50 plus $3.50 shipping!

As with version 9, Leister Productions sells through Amazon at the full retail price, plus $5.00 shipping, for a total of $104.00. Small Dog Electronics[1] is currently offering it at a discount: $89.99, plus $6.99 shipping for a total of $96.98.
