I got the news yesterday from the company that handles order fulfillment for MacGenealogist CDs is discontinuing CDs on July 30th. These are the CDs containing higher resolution versions of most of the Reunion for Mac videos I published on MacGenealogist.com.
I’ve done some research and haven’t found any alternatives that would enable me maintain the low price. I want to keep these videos available because people have been helped greatly by having them handy, regardless of whether they have a fast Internet connection or not.
I’ve been racking my brain thinking of alternatives. Then it hit me! What I really need is to know how you want the hours of videos available if not on CD or DVD. Right now I’m leaning toward making them available for download as another benefit for Premium Members. That may be a fine idea, but I really want your opinion.
Also, this serves as your warning that if you want MacGenealogist CDs, buy them now.

Nooooo! I’m working on saving up enough money to buy all the CDs, but I’m not there yet! Waaah! 🙁
If you make the video files available for download as another benefit for Premium members, will you make the written material that accompanies them on the CDs available for download too? That was what really made me want to buy the CDs– the combination of video *and* written materials.
CDs 2 and 3 included a PDF of the associated post text from the website. If I make the videos downloadable, I would do the same with these PDFs.
I agree with Arandun and wonder about the written materials. Hope they will all be available for download.

Then I definitely vote for making them all downloadable with the PDFs, for Premium members. That would be wonderful. (I’m also hoping it’s something that can happen pretty soon after the CDs get discontinued on the 30th, so that there’s not a big gap in the availability of the materials!)
I too think that making the CDs downloadable would be the hook to make me become a premium member. I have CD 1 already.

So sorry to learn that there will be no more CDs, but I think I could live with the information being downloadable for premium members. Just don’t stop making the videos. They have been so helpful.
I definitely vote that you make them available for downloading that Premium members can buy. I already have 1, 2 and 3 but hoping that you will eventually make more. You definitely make my life easier!

I, too, already have the three CDs, but I am really enjoying being able to download (by being a Premium Member) these more recent videos you’ve been posting online. I vote for online downloading through Premium Membership. Thank you!

I finished putting the videos that were once available on CDs onto a page called MacGenealogist Archives. You can view it by selecting Tutorials -> Mac -> MacGenealogist Archives from the navigation bar at the top of every page.
Premium members can download the videos for their personal use.
