As a long time PC user, I was looking for a genealogy program that had a lot of nice visual reports and charts as my relatives want to see the connections of the tree, and how people are related. As such, I downloaded a few trials of the various genealogy programs on the Mac and gave them a try.
MacFamilyTree does a good job at creating reports and charts that are attractive, colourful, and eye grabbing. Although the method of entering information takes some getting used to, it works. I haven’t tried the application to use it on the iPod/iPhone yet, but will. The ability to save any report or chart to a PDF with one click is a definite plus as it allows me to email information to various branches of my tree to check the information for errors or omissions, and then email me (not on the PDF mind you) back the corrections. The menu interface is also better thought out than other programs as if I want to see or save a chart, I go to the views tab. Reports are in the Reports tab, where as going to the Export tab, allows you to export the tree a cd/dvd so other people can view the tree at their leisure, or you can save it to your iPhone/iPod, etc.
I am still learning where a few things are, but overall, MacFamilyTree is a very good program and as a result, it was the program I decided to purchase. Definitely give it a try.
