Configuring options in a new genealogy program is an often missed step. There are some settings that will tailor your experience so the application works the way you want. In this video I take you step-by-step through the initial configuration of Family Tree Maker 2009.

I had try to replace my Family Tree Maker 2009 Platinum and had a cow of a day trying to get it back on my computer, and was advised by Ancestry to cancel my first profile and start again, it worked, but what is a user friendly program to use for doing one Family Tree, for I feel the family Tree Maker is not user friendly, and doubles up all the time on names. HELP?

There are many good options. I’m a fan of RootsMagic.

It sounds like the data file(s) may be corrupted. If you’d like to zip up some data and email it to me I’d be happy to try loading it. send it to mail at pcgenealogist.com.
