Problem-the program automatically changes everyone’s first name to “living” and erases all the birth information if the person does not have a date of death. HOw can I stop this? I have re-entered data only to have it change to “living” again and the date of birth and location of birth disappear.

Hi, Beverly. Where is the information changed? Have you got privatize file turned on (File->Privatize File on the menu bar)?

I have entered a fictional child for test purposes and checked out the privatize option which was not on at the time-tuned it on and then off. The fictional child’s first name was changed to “living” when I turned the privatize option on; when I turned the privatize option off, the fictional child’s name and birthdate reappeared. However, that did not change the rest of my “living” entries and restore their first names and birth data.
In one branch of the family, I had to detach and reattach to the correct cousins, all the spouses who were attached to one cousin; the program somehow attached three additional spouses who were married to her three sisters. Then an aunt (same branch of the family) disappeared and all the information about her husband attached itself to another aunt. This is very frustrating because I am trying to create a family history for a reunion in October.
I have been buying Family Tree Maker since version 2 came out and never had problems like this before. It seems to me that Family Tree Maker 2009 should have been beta tested more thoroughly before it was released. As a customer, I am very reluctant to purchase another Family Tree Maker program after this experience. I have been dealing with the change of first names to “living” since the day I installed the program, which leads me to think that something like the privatize option (which has been off)is changing the first names of my entries who are still living into “living”.
Surely other cutomers have reported this problem. Is there some sort of fix for it that I can download?
