Reunion 10 Released

Leister Productions today, released Reunion 10 for Mac. To help you evaluate, upgrade or buy, and make the transition I created a Reunion 10 Review and Guide resource page.

The review and guide tells you what you need to know before you buy or upgrade and what you need to know after you get it. The latter section contains videos that show you how to use some new features and how to do some tasks that have changed in the new version. There are separate articles for those topics as well and they’re linked in the review and guide, near the videos.

There are a ton of new features and changes. The review tells you what version 10 does that version 9 won’t, what version 10 won’t do, how to upgrade your family files, and my recommendation on whether or not to buy or upgrade among many other topics. Here’s the table of contents:

There’s a new Reunion 10 tutorial index page so you can find articles about Reunion 10 without sorting through the version 9 articles. That’s important because with the new user interface in version 10, the initial steps to many tasks have changed. The guide tells you how to find features you use in version 9, like listing sources. You can combine that knowledge with the version 9 videos to figure out to get the job done until I update the videos. The Reunion 9 tutorial index page will remain in place so you can quickly find help when you need it.

On the Future of Custom Reunion Source Types

Have you wondered what happened with the Reunion source types I had been creating? Let me tell you what happened.

As you’ll recall, I created custom source types based on guidance from “Evidence Explained” (EE) (see “source types” in the Reunion Tutorial Index). Memberships No Longer Expire

I’ve changed GenealogyTools memberships from expiring annually to non-expiring. All current memberships have been changed to non-expiring. Now GenealogyTools membership helps you accomplish more family history research and be confident in your tools regardless of when you join.

The membership price has been chosen by members long enough for me to determine the price most people consider fair: $25.00. With the extra value of non-expiring membership this might be too low–let me know if it is ;). For now, I’ve set the membership price at $24.97.

Ancestry iOS App 3.1 Update: New Feature Review

Ancestry iOS Update IconThe new update to Ancestry’s app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch is now available in the app store.

The app can now notify you when Ancestry.com finds  information it thinks relevant to your ancestors. Enabling this optional feature will cause the little red number badge to appear on the Ancestry app icon when Ancestry.com finds new information. New Index of Reunion 9 for Mac Tutorials

The new page containing an index of Reunion 9 for Mac tutorials is now complete. You can easily reach it through this site’s menu: Mac -> Reunion.

I got a lot of feedback on the experimental index page. I carefully considered all the comments and chose to create the index for Reunion the same way I did for Family Tree Maker (PC). I’ll be doing the same for RootsMagic and Family Tree Maker for Mac 2.
