The first update to the Reunion for iPhone genealogy software became available in the iTunes App Store yesterday. According to the company, they addressed “most of the outstanding issues.” They added localizations—geek speak for adding languages for menus and such—for Dutch and French. They also listed the following changes:
- Added “x of y” numbering when displaying pictures, where x is the current picture and y is the total number of pictures linked to a person.
- Editing of Phone, Fax, email and URL fields in Address section of Person Info window now works properly.
- Moved Soundex out of the Person Info window to the family card as an optional field.

The new beta version of MacFamilyTree included for the first time, a feature that displays events in world history. This can help you understand the lives and events of your ancestors in the context of the world around them. In this video, World History in Mac Genealogy Software MacFamilyTree, I demonstrate how to how to add your own custom events and how to use the feature when editing an event, displaying a timeline, creating a person chart, and exporting genealogy data to a website.
Installing Family Tree Maker 2009 is pretty straight forward, but a walk-through can’t hurt if you’re new to the PC genealogy software from Ancestry.com. In this video I show you how to install the application. In the next screencast in this series I’ll cover the initial configuration.

Synium Software announced the availability of version 5.5 of their Macintosh genealogy software, MacFamilyTree. Their press release notes that this is a public beta test release. Some of the new features may be worth checking out, or you can wait for my video walk-through.
